Do you Remember Vinyl Records & Albums?

Last week was the 50th anniversary of  The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’

I am going to admit that I was never a big Beatles fan, but I did enjoy a few of their records, yes, records…do you remember vinyl records and albums?

Remember 45’s  and 33’s?

If you read the Wayback Wednesday post that I wrote about 8-tracks and cassettes, then you will remember that I told you that I still have vinyl records and albums in my basement but nothing to play them on.

Do you remember “putting the needle” on the record and if it skipped you had to weigh it down with a quarter!

Rushing to the record store early Saturday morning before heading to the movies where we would sit and watch Bruce Lee “karate movies'” and cartoons all day was a perfect way to kick off the weekends in the 60s and 70s.

The album covers and record jackets were bright, bold and most had inserts with all the lyrics written so you could sing along, and yes, they were actually words, unlike what is heard in today’s R&B, Hip Hop or Rap songs…WTW?

As you can see, these albums are old and I am not sure how much longer I will be keeping them.  Perhaps out there are some collectors of R&B vinyl records and albums who may be interested in giving them a new home so if you know of someone please have them send an email to ablake48@gmail dot com.

Let’s Chat: what was your favorite record or album of the 60s or 70s?

  1. Do I remember? I have both – still! Heck! I’ve even taken to hitting up record stores to find old LP’s I used to have. My sisters and I used to write our names on our 45’s so we would know who stole from whom 🙂

  2. I had 33 1/3, 45’s and 78’s (and I still have my 45s!) but, like you, nothing to play them on. I might be mistaken, but I think it is some of the album covers that are worth money – not so much the records. My son, who is in his mid 20’s, likes records better than CD’s, which I find a little hard to believe. He has excellent hearing (I don’t) and he can really tell the difference.

    1. Yes, 33 1/3 were long playing singles and my favorite one was “The Pee Wee Herman” – sounds stupid now, but it was my jam. I have a few autographed album covers which may be worth something, I guess that I need to check it out on eBay. I like your son’s style!

I want to know what you think, please leave a comment and share with your circle.
