Delaware Africa Coalition 2nd Annual Taste of Africa Festival

2nd Annual Taste of Africa

Last Sunday I had an opportunity to attend the 2nd Annual Taste of Africa Food festival sponsored by the Delaware Africa Coalition. The festival was held at Glasgow Park, Pavilion #5 on Routes 896 & 40 in Newark, Delaware.

I was invited to be a part of this event by Dr. Kelechi Lawrence, a Nigerian native and one of the founding members of the Delaware Africa Coalition.

The initial invitation came with a request to be part of the Food Competition, but the week turned out to be a little bit more busy with our recent move and my sister and her girlfriend visiting from Florida.

However, I made sure to attend as I one of the panelist scheduled to speak on Social Change and how it affects us in the state of Delaware.

Lieutenant Bethany Long Hall and New Castle County Executive Matt Myer were also in attendance as they had been last year. Each were formally acknowledged, greeted warmly and gifted beautiful items as a “Thanks” for their support to the Taste of Africa festival.

There was African and Caribbean’s cuisine, cultural arts and music, educational activities, children’s bounces, food tasting competitions, vendors networking opportunities and fashion for all.

After the panel’s discussion of which I spoke on social media and how we are all socially responsible for our digital footprint both as young adults and as parents I went to visit the vendor tables.

I interviewed each vendor live on Facebook of which I hope you will take a few moments to view.

I am definitely looking forward to not only the 3rd Annual Taste of Africa food festival but also to hearing more about as well as attending other events sponsored by the Delaware Africa Coalition.

Thank you Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence for inviting me to this FREE fun filled family event.

  1. I’m sad I missed that! The tables look BEAUTIFUL!! The food looks delicious too. I’m going to have to hear you speak about being socially responsible for our digital footprints. I’ve never heard those terms put together before. But I wonder if it has to do with morality and compassion many times going out the window when the user is behind a screen? Some things online, I just wonder why it was shared. Sometimes, people record when they should actually be calling for help. Not sure if that’s what you meant. But that’s where that sentence takes me.
