How Code Purple Delaware is Impacting Growth in Kent County

I recently had an opportunity to interview Ennio Emmanuel, Development director at MLCC Maranatha Life Changing Church, Executive Director at Dream4 who is also the Marketing Consultant and board member at AtoZ Insurance.

I first met Ennio when we both attended an informational meeting for a Delaware Volunteer program, unfortunately, neither of us were chosen to participate! However, from that initial meeting many years ago he recently invited me to present “Social Media for Small Businesses” at his church sponsored event – there is always a “reason and a season” for meeting others.

Ennio had previous experience working with Cold Weather Shelters and other non-profits and started volunteering with Code Purple in 2018. However, when the Board decided to retire, they asked him to become the new President and to create a new board. Ennio admitted that he to pray on it before accepting because he was already working 3 additional jobs!

During that time of prayer, he was contacted by the State of Delaware with a request; they wanted Ennio and Code Purple Kent County to become a partner and was offered a contract to work with the women’s prison population from which Dream 4 was created.

Code Purple of Kent County provides food, shelter and programs that helps the homeless population in Kent Country as well as those addicted to drugs.

The FireFly Cleanup project was comprised of 100-150 volunteers who assisted in cleaning up after this major music event, which was attended by 50-90K people. Many had left blankets, tents, backpacks, chairs, clothing and shoes and the volunteers worked in collecting and sorting along with other Halfway Houses volunteers and local recycling companies they were able to not only remove these items, but recycle and reuse many of the new and barely used items.

Ennio was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Delaware at the age of 13, and his love of music and entertainment has afforded him an opportunity to work with Lauryn Hill and the Fugees and Rick Ross and then he moved to Los Angeles, California to cut an album.
