You may remember this previous blog post in which I asked if a landline could save your life during a natural disaster?
Today I want you to raise your hand if you still have a landline.
We did have a landline for 26 years up until the day we moved, I also had a seperate business landline as well. However, since the move, I have only used my mobile phone which gave me pause recently when I powered it off before going to bed.
You see, I don’t keep my mobile device in the bedroom and usually only turn it off when hubby is home. Last Saturday he was away overnight to visit family in Maryland and for some strange reason I powered off the phone before going to bed.
It wasn’t until the following morning that it dawned on me that it could have been a major mistake. Had hubby or either of our sons tried to reach me, they wouldn’t have been able to do so nor would I have been able to immediately make an emergency call.
While standing in line at the grocery store, I was engaged in conversation with a woman who mentioned she had left her phone at home and that she too had recently given up her landline because it was only used to call her mobile phone when she couldn’t find it!
I laughed and shared my story as well, but now I am thinking that I should get another landline when we move.

I haven’t had a landline in years!! But I do know that “back then” I remembered phone numbers a whole lot better than I do now! There are phone numbers I call everyday that I wouldn’t have a clue about if I didn’t have my cell to help me. I wonder sometimes if tech actually makes space in our brains to do and remember more…Or if it somehow makes us dumber or lazier. ??♀️
I know what you mean, I remember our New York telephone number from the 70’s – 914-235-0905 (no longer in service) but I couldn’t tell you what my son’s mobile phone numbers are – bad mommy!
I just recently removed my land line and at least 2 times a week I find reasons for adding my landline back. Occasionally the signal and clarity is a challenge. I find that I could use an extra phone line for phone call or when I am on an extended hold. I imagine the transition is easier if if you never had the experience of a land line and perhaps there is a technological solution I am not aware of. The jury is still out for me.
I know what you mean, I still believe that having a landline is vital especially if something should happen to the signals or to avoid being hacked because we use mobile devices for more than just making calls.

Yes, we still have a landline. Hubby insists on keeping it, saying that in case of emergency our cell phones might not work.
Yes, as much as we rely on “modern technology”, the more we find a need to hold on to some of the previous conveniences which of course include hard wired phones!
