Last month I had an opportunity to present Social Media Marketing Tips for Small Business Owners at the Women’s Business Center in Dover. This presentation was given to several women who are enrolled in the WBC’s Small Business Training Programs.
I definitely enjoy teaching and presenting more than I do posting and managing social media accounts, however, until that State or Federal Contract is awarded, (and yes, it’s on my “Vision Board”) I will continue to do both.
Anywho, in attendance were seven women all in different stages of their businesses therefore, the questions were diverse and definitely thought provoking.
As a new business owner it can oftentimes become overwhelming with the daily tasks of just running the business so adding a Social Media Marketing Campaign can become an irritant. Many feel that it’s something that can be placed on the back burner which can be detrimental to the success of a new small business.

Social Media Marketing campaigns have been shown to be more effective in generating quality leads than print or televised advertisement so it’s important to spend time marketing on social.
Here are a few tips to help manage a Social Media Marketing Campaign:
- Brainstorming social media content and topics for the next 60 days.
- Writing or Curating Content – enough for one or two Facebook posts and two or three tweets per day.
- Use tools like HootSuite or Bufferapp to schedule automated postings to different social media networks.
- Check in twice per day to engage with audience.
Once you set up your content calendar it is vital to get visitors to follow your various social profiles. Make sure to display your social media icons prominently in your website header or sidebar, on your stationary, in your email closing, on business cards, brochures, newsletters and flyers – in other words on all promotional materials.
Add sharing buttons on your web pages and posts to ensure that your content is share-friendly. When people come across valuable content, they want to share it with their friends and followers.
