Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans, that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Please note the following types of local institutions, stores and restaurants are offering free items or discounts on Veterans Day or the day after.
- Free meals at many local veterans organizations such as the American Legion, AMVets, VFW, DAV etc. Check these local sites.
- Free meals at local restaurants, even non-participating National chains
- Free entrance to federal, state and local parks and recreation. All federal park entrance fees are waived.

Hagley Museum – Wilmington, DE
Veterans can receive free admission to the museum between 10-4 on Sunday, 11/11/18.
Famous Dave’s
On Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, in honor of Veteran’s Day all former and current military personnel will receive a free two meat Combo.
Applebee’s
Veterans and Active Duty Military can select a free meal from a limited menu on Veteran’s Day. Provide proof of service required.
Friendly’s Free Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner
Friendly’s is treating veterans and active military, with a valid military ID or honorable discharge card, to a free dine-in breakfast, lunch or dinner from select menus on Veteran’s Day 11-11-2018.
This Veterans Day, we invite all veterans to come in for a FREE Sandwich and a slice of cake. Be there at noon for our live rendition of Our National Anthem!
Grub Burger Bar
Past and present military get a complimentary entree on 11.11.2018. Grub provides an ongoing year round discount for veterans by offering a 10% percent off any purchase with a valid military I.D. or uniform.
Texas Roadhouse
On Sunday, November 11th, select from a free special veterans lunch menu including a beverage and sides.
Golden Corral
On Monday, November 12th, 2018 from 5 PM to 9 PM, Golden Corral offers a free sit-in “thank you” dinner for Military veterans, retirees, and active duty members.
Home Depot
A 10% discount is also offered to all other military veterans on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Veterans Day.
Rack Room Shoes
Military personnel and dependents get 10% off their entire purchase on Veterans Day, Memorial Day and 4th of July.
