Hello DelBlogger readers!
I came across an article that I absolutely had to share with all of you. It really hit home for me, and it will for many of us, especially those of you who have settled here or have children and grandchildren in western Sussex County. It’s about our local, independent libraries and the incredible challenges they face.

You know, a library is so much more than a place to borrow books. For our community, they’re true hubs of connection. They offer a quiet place to read and relax, but they also provide vital services that our families depend on, like job fairs, ESL classes, and programs for children and teens. They are a lifeline for so many, a place where our grandchildren can get help with homework or find a new passion.
The article reveals that our local independent libraries are struggling to make ends meet. They only receive about half of their funding from the county, which means they have to fundraise the rest just to keep the doors open. This is a tough road, and it’s forcing them to cut back on hours and staff. It’s hard to imagine, but places like the Selbyville Public Library had to raise a staggering $87,000 in one year just to break even!

This is where our community spirit shines. The library staff are so dedicated, working tirelessly to serve us, and it’s time we show them our support. This isn’t just about a building; it’s about preserving a vital part of our community and ensuring these resources are there for our kids and grandkids. Let’s stand by our libraries and help them continue to be the invaluable community centers we cherish. Let’s make sure they can not only survive but thrive.
I strongly encourage you to read the full article to learn more about this critical issue. Please share this post with your family, friends, and followers to spread the word and help these amazing community pillars get the support they deserve!
