Perserverance in Podcasting Cover Art

Perseverance in Podcasting Pays Off

Are you frustrated and ready to throw in the towel? Not getting the downloads and listeners, or even reaching the target market audience that you wish to reach? Well, I’m here today to tell you, don’t quit perseverance in podcasting pays off

Yes, it does. Let me tell you a little story…I started my very first podcast in 2017,  it was named The Delaware Blogger Podcast which it is still named.  It was a podcast that I was simply recording from my car or from the “Back 40”.  It was hosted on Anchor FM, which was free and it was a community and we just recorded mini episodes with no rhyme nor reason until someone noticed me.

Yeah, a fellow Delaware State graduate who owned a radio station noticed me and said, hey, we’d like you to be a guest on a show because we’re looking for your demographics. What do you think? I jumped at the chance! It was free; it was fun; but it was a live show and it was scary. But I bit my teeth there for several years, recorded over 100 episodes and I loved it. I got to meet so many great people, I went to Long Island, New York to appear on TV and It was wonderful, but I wanted something more and then another opportunity presented itself.

In 2018, I met a fellow entrepreneur from Maryland who found me on LinkedIn and asked if I wanted to be a speaker at an event, and then after a few tv talk shows, he started producing podcasts and and offered me the opportunity to host another show, which I still do every Wednesday on “Out & About with Antionette” and it’s by far my favorite show.

It had its growing pains, as I first started on the platform with the topic of “Blog Your Way to a Business Profit but eventually went back to Out & About with Antionette because I love talking to people and sharing the positive things that they are doing in Delaware.

I’ve gone on to teach classes and conduct workshops, I have a 5-Week Podcasting Your Purpose Coaching course,  and have written 2 Podcasting Resource Guides.

My numbers aren’t where they should be but I don’t care. I’m not comparing myself to anyone else and neither should you. Imposter Syndrome is real, I understand that, but if you’re doing what you love and love what you do, success is inevitable.

I’m only saying that to say that because of perseverance,  I was once again offered an opportunity to host another show for a business based in California.  An email was send and a conference call followed which ended with, “hey we’re thinking about doing a podcast on digital marketing and we’d love for you to be the host, what is your rate?”

Remember I started in 2017, on a free platform, just having fun and I can count on one hand, how much money I actually made even with sponsorships and affiliate links. But now it’s 2023 and I’m going to get paid to do what I love and love what I do, so success is inevitable.

So today I want you to think about your podcast and try to be patient and persevere.  If it’s your passion and if you love it you will be successful!  Don’t let all these gurus and experts tell you that you have to have this many downloads or that many downloads.

I know that it’s great to see download numbers climb because every time I get my report from Buzzsprout, I’m happy but the numbers are not reaching where I think they should be especially after all these years, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, now 2023, seven years, but isn’t the number supposed to be the magic number?
