Bruce Rushton is the owner and CEO of The Growth Coach of Northern Delaware, a business coaching and consulting company which serves Delaware and the surrounding areas. The Great Resignation – Evolution of Entrepreneurship
“The Great Resignation” isn’t a new concept, it is however, people leaving jobs because they are tired of being in toxic and hostile work environments and have decided that it’s time to start their own business. We all know someone who has left a job to start a business, but over the last two years we’ve seen even more people in various demographics starting a businesses. Many are taking their side hustles and turning them into legitimate businesses. Some of this can be attributed as a byproduct of the global pandemic, however, people leaving their 9-5’s and becoming entrepreneurs is nothing new,
Many even think that the younger generations started the Great Resignation, and even if they did start it, it’s the Boomers and beyond who are really taking it by the horns and just moving forward. Bruce has talked to many clients who are in their 50s and 60s, many have worked in Corporate America or Banking but have a pet project or a passion project that they want to do for the rest of their life and not simply retire.
Many don’t want to go back to the grind of a 9-5 and want more of a work-life balance, which didn’t come with working in a corporation. Many simply want to take control and have financial freedom or have the option to work on their own and it’s great when they are bitten by the entrepreneurial bug.
Before becoming a Growth Coach, Bruce served in various positions focused on training independent business owners and developing talent for two Fortune 500 companies. From 1999 to 2011, Bruce worked for the Mac Tools division of Stanley Black & Decker as a Project Manager, Sales Training Manager, and Vendor Manager. In 2011, Bruce joined DuPont Pioneer as the Sales Training and Development Manager before being promoted to the dual role of Sales Effectiveness Operations Manager and member of the North Atlantic Commercial Unit Leadership Team.
In those roles, he became an expert in business leadership, strategic planning, sales coaching, training and development, territory management, and sales and marketing execution. In addition to his corporate experiences, Bruce holds a Bachelor of Science and an MBA in Business Administration.
Bruce was coaching in Corporate America and has since developed a passion for it so now he does it for local businesses here in Delaware. Bruce had a passion for helping businesses in particular, small business owners, helping them to grow and succeed, and now he gets to do it every day as a business owner.
If it feels good when you wake up and you’re smiling and you do that 13-step, commute, there’s nothing better than that. Bruce admits however, that he is a bit of a business nerd, he really loves studying business and was working with people, even with the pandemic. He believes that there is going to be a great case study post-pandemic, we will look back to analyze how when we shut down all these businesses, how some businesses thrived, and some businesses failed.
For Bruce, there is nothing better than meeting and helping a business owner succeed; some come to me and they say, “Bruce listen, we don’t know what we’re doing. We need your help. Help. We need you to tell us what to do.”
This is however, not the case with all of his clients, as a lot of them really know what they’re doing, but there’s nothing better than helping a business reach their goals, turning their passion and their dream into financial success, thriving, building and growing.
