Thank you Dr. Dave for posting this article to your blog on Sunday because I needed a reminder to get back into a fitness routine!

You guys know that since my diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes, I have been really watching what I eat and drink, however, with our recent move and the excessive heat, I haven’t been working out like I should and I need to get back into it.

There really isn’t an excuse because our apartment complex has not one but two pools and a fitness center, so I just need to get my butt back in gear – physically and literally!

In reading this article from Dr. Dave, it gave me an incentive to get back on track so that I can keep my diabetes diagnosis in check.

How Can Physical Therapy Help Those With Diabetes, Or May Be Susceptible To Diabetes?

Physical activity is the basis for prevention of diabetes, and along with diet and medication, the foundation for treatmentof diabetes.  If you’re already a diabetic, then you should know that you must control your blood glucose (sugar), lower your cholesterol and blood pressure, maintain a healthy weight, and exercise to lower your risk of stroke and heart disease.  Regular physical activity can also reduce your need for medications, especially if you are pre-diabetic.  The American Diabetes Association recommends 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least 5x/week, and should include both aerobic and strength workouts.  Your Physical Therapist should conduct a thorough evaluation, including a detailed medical history and list of medications, and create an individualized exercise program tailored specifically for you.

  1. I haven’t. 😩 I started the summer off exercising regularly. But I slacked off. I’m going to go to the corner and think about what I’ve done now.

    You, on the other hand, look awesome! Keep it up! I’m going to let this inspire me to get back to it.
