Why You Should Turn Your Passion into a Profit At Any Age

Wow, April and May were two very busy months and had I known just how much fun and enjoyable it would be working for myself I would have done so years ago!

Two months of steady teaching and conducting Social Media Marketing and Blogging workshops has added fuel to the fire!  I am finally turning my passion into a profit and loving every minute of it.

Teaching along with doing some amazing product reviews for Verizon Wireless and Mitsubishi has really motivated me to continue building and growing ABlake Enterprises and I encourage anyone, regardless of their age to pursue their passion.

Do you have a skill or an passion project that you wish to share, then I encourage you to start out volunteering to promote and brand yourself.  The experience of volunteering at local libraries, community centers, churches and other local venues has enabled me to turn my talents of teaching into a second career as an Encore Entrepreneur.

Turning a “Passion into Profit” is more than a catch phrase because in today’s world it has become less of a pipe dream and more of a reality for many.  The days of working for someone else for 30-40 years is no longer the norm, leaving that company with a Gold Watch and a pension is no longer a reality for most.  Resource actions, layoffs and company closures are much more common and it’s never “personal” it’s alway “just business”.

As an Encore Entrepreneur who recently left the corporate world to become a full time business owner, I must admit that is has been exhilarating, exciting and enjoyable and thanks to the motivation of family, friends and even listening to motivational speakers such as Les Brown, Gary Vaynerchuk and Jim Rohn, makes my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.

Others such as Chrissy Weems also understands the importance of listening to and reading motivational materials to stay focused and strong in the pursuit of turning a passion into a profit.

So if you to have been thinking about turning your passion into a profit, I suggest you find a mentor at SBA, SCORE or some other small business association or simply start out by attending  the many free offerings at your local library, community centers or sign up for a Continuing Education course at your local Community Colleges or Universities.

Don’t let age, location or any other external factor stop you from pursuing your passion because life it too short and you know what, you are good at what you do, so why not share your experience or expertise with others?

Success From The Struggle – Chat with Connie Drummond

As women, especially African American women most of us know the struggle, the struggle to ensure everyone else is taken care of…our children, our friends, our parents and grandparents and of course our husbands or significant others.

However, what happens when we allow those others take away our power, do we give up….do we give in…or do we fight through the struggle coming out on the other side stronger and more successful?

How often have we given up on our dreams or put them on the back burner?  A slight setback doesn’t mean it has to be a permanent set-back which is what we discussed on my Podcast with special guest Connie Drummond.

Connie Drummond, is the Founder of Lady C Productions and owner of ArtzScape an Award Winning Black Box Theatre and Event Venue in the prestigious neightborhood of LOMA, Wilmington’s creative district.  She talked about the struggle of being in an abusive marriage but how she turned her struggle into a success.

Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker For Fun in the Sun

UE Roll 2 Bluetooth Speaker Review

I hope that by the time you read this post the weather will have warmed up and it will officially be considered Spring.  It has been a cold and damp April but now that we are in the month of May, it’s time to clean off the grill and uncover the pool and hang outdoors longer.

I find working outdoors not only cathartic but healthy as well, using muscles and moving the body really gets the blood flowing and having music can make it even better.

Unfortunately, for this review, you will not see the UE Roll 2 Bluetooth Speaker floating across the pool to show that it is waterproof, however, you will see it hanging from a deck post as I uncovered the patio furniture.

outdooor funs with a bluetooth speaker

I have purchased several Bluetooth Speakers in the past but I can honestly say, this is one of the best not only because of its rich sound, but because of its ability to float along as I float or lay poolside.

As you can hear from the following video The UE Roll 2 Bluetooth Speaker has an amazing clear sound and really brings out the quality of your Smartphone.

So as I work outside pulling weeds and preparing the pool for the season, I can listen to my smooth jazz to make my day go better than planned – as long as I stay away from the poisonous plants which seems to find me every season!

10 Basic Blogging Tips

First Impression is the Last Impression

If your blog doesn’t have decent layout and your readers are finding it hard to read your actual content, you need to fix it . It’s your blog design which is first viewed by your blog readers and if they don’t like it, they will simply close it and move on.

2. Content Quality

You content’s quality matters a great deal. If it’s really good, it will motivate your blog readers to visit your blog again and again to read your latest blogging tips and keep up with your posts. Relevant and interesting images and videos makes your posts more interesting.

No one wants to read a long wordy blog post without a single image. Also, proofread for grammatical and sentence related errors and create an eye catching title for all your blog posts.

FYI – Blog posts with eye catching headlines get better CTR (Click through Rate) in search engine results and other places of listings.

3. Write Guest Posts for Other Blogs

This is one that I personally need to do as I accept many guest posts, however, have never written one for any other blogger.

Write guest posts for other blogs in your targeted niche is one of the best things you could do to become a successful blogger. Make a list of most popular blogs in your niche and approach them with high quality guest posts.

4. Reply to Comments

You should reply to comments coming on your blog posts. If you are not replying comments, don’t expect lots of comments on your blog posts from genuine blog readers. Check your guest posts on regular basis and reply to incoming comments. Before commenting you should set an avatar with your picture on Gravatar.com.

5. Learn the Basics of SEO

You should start learning the basics of SEO. It will be your SEO skills that will take you from being an average blogger to a successful blogger. Use targeted keywords in your blog post URL, Title, meta tags, as an alternative text with images, heading tags and few times in your actual blog content. You should interlink your blog posts where they make sense.

Link to trusted websites to give additional information about a topic to your blog readers.

6. Link Building Activities

Guest blogging on other blogs will help you get some high quality backlinks for your blog from popular blogs in your niche. You cannot get much traffic to your blog without link building activities if you are blogging about a competitive niche.

7. Have a Strong Presence on Social Media Networks

You need to make sure your blog has a strong presence on Social Media networks like Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter.  However, you don’t need to be on all platforms, choose 2 and master them!

8. Improve Speed of Your Blog

You need to look at all possible ways to improve the speed of your blog. If you are adding images, you should optimize their sizes before uploading on your blog. You should enter cleaned HTML into your blog posts.

9. Improve Engagement on Your Blog

You should write engaging content on your blog. You should give a personal touch to your blog posts. You should ask questions; take advice and feedback from your blog readers. CommentLuv plugin to encourage visitors to leave comments and interact with one another.

10. Monetize Your Blog

If one of your primary goals behind blogging is earning cash, you should start monetizing your blog once you start seeing some traffic on it. No doubt there are hundreds or even thousands of websites claiming to help you make money from your blog, but don’t believe all of them, ask other bloggers who are more than willing to share their success stories.
