Unconditional Love and Compassion: Hope on Deck

Unconditional Love and Compassion: Hope on Deck interview with Dawn Sheehan

In the latest episode of “Out & About with Antionette” podcast, I had  the opportunity to shine a light on Dawn Sheehan and the impactful work being done by Hope on Deck, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals in recovery and those struggling with substance use disorder in the state of Delaware.

Dawn opens up about the organization’s mission, projects, and the hope they bring to those in need.  The episode begins with me introducing Hope on Deck and its focus on showing love and compassion to those in recovery and those struggling with substance use disorder. Dawn shares details about the Empty Shoes Project, a powerful initiative where 537 pairs of shoes were displayed to represent the lives lost to overdose in 2022. The visual representation aims to erase stigma and remind everyone that these individuals were loved and valued.

Throughout the interview, Dawn emphasizes the hands-on approach of Hope on Deck’s outreach missions. They meet individuals experiencing homelessness, providing essential items, and a listening ear. The organization’s dedication to demonstrating unconditional love and compassion is truly remarkable.

Dawn also sheds light on the practical support they offer, such as filling orders for clothing and essentials for individuals entering rehab. The organization’s focus on empowering individuals and helping them take positive steps towards recovery shines through their actions.

We discuss the roots of Hope on Deck, with Dawn sharing that her son, Earl, founded the organization in 2018. Even after Earl’s passing, Dawn has carried on the torch and expanded the organization’s reach with the help of dedicated volunteers.
