I love watching my sons interacting with their father. Whether they are working out or just talking and laughing together, however, what warms my heart the most is when they are home hanging out on the sofa watching Netflix movies together.

I don’t know which are their favorites, but I definitely have 5 favorite Father’s Day Flicks that I want to share.

I am not sure about you, but I love movies that celebrate dads especially those that feature positive portrayals of fatherhood. So in honor of Father’s Day, grab a snack, head to the couch and watch one or all of my 5 Favorite Father’s Day Flicks.

The Pursuit of Happyness

1. The Pursuit of Happyness
Starring Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith, the 2006 drama The Pursuit of Happyness tells the story of true life father, Chris Gardner, an entrepreneur who loses his wife and his apartment and struggles to make ends meet and raise his young son while homeless. You will definitely need tissues while watching this movie as it will have you in tears.

Daddy’s Little Girls

2. Daddy’s Little Girls
Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls may be the movie that made us all fall in love with Idris Elba. He has been named the sexiest man alive but in the 2007 romantic drama Elba is Monty James, a mechanic and single dad fighting for custody of his three daughters.

Monty falls for Julia (Gabrielle Union), the lawyer helping him with his case. This poignant story of a Black father’s devotion to his children is one of Tyler Perry’s best works.

Coming to America

3. Coming to America
Coming to America cracks me up everytime I watch it and I can’t wait for the sequel to this 1988 comedy classic scheduled to hit the big screen in 2020! John Amos aka James Evans, the strict dad in Good Times plays a great dad with two daughters in his role as Mr. McDowell, a fast-food restaurant owner in Queens, New York.

Honorable mention: Who wouldn’t love to have a father like James Earl Jones, who portrays King Jaffe Joffer of Zamunda, the regal father of Eddie Murphy’s Prince Akeem.

Daddy Day Care

4. Daddy Day Care
In this 2003 family classic comedy, Eddie Murphy plays the role of Charlie Hinton, a dad who got laid off from his corporate job and decides to open a day care center with another unemployed dad. Daddy Day Care co-stars Regina King as his wife, hilarity abounds as Hinton and his fellow father sidekicks try to navigate the world of dirty diapers with kicking and screaming toddlers.

John Q

5. John Q
How far would you go to save your child’s life? That’s is the question that is the driving motivation behind Denzel Washington’s character, as John Quincy Archibald.
