Have you ever thought about writing a book to boost your personal brand or business, but weren’t sure where to start? In this episode of the Out & About with Antionette podcast, I chat with expert writer and book coach Denise Renee about how to get that book out of your head and onto the page.
Denise shares her lifelong love of writing that started when she was just a kid. Her mom recognized her talent early on and always encouraged it. This reminds us how important it is to nurture our children’s natural gifts – they often point to their true calling in life!
After a career path including teaching high school English and working in marketing, Denise realized her strength was helping people write books. She assists professionals, entrepreneurs and content creators in developing their book ideas, organizing them effectively, and preparing the manuscript for publication. Her sweet spot is the big picture editing rather than detailed proofreading.
We both agree that everyone has at least one good book in them. The challenge is extracting those ideas and executing on them. Not everyone is a skilled writer, and that’s okay. You can partner with a writing coach, ghostwriter or editor to translate your knowledge into book form.
“Having a great idea is one thing,” Denise explains. “But you also have to know your skill sets and strengths. If you’re not a strong writer, get help.” She offers a free coaching session to help aspiring authors clarify their book vision and map out the writing process.
While it’s inspiring to hear about people who wrote their book in 30 days, Denise cautions against comparing yourself to others. Those speedy writers likely had advantages like existing content to draw from, a natural writing ability, and a support team. Your book journey will be unique. Focus on putting out a quality book, not on arbitrary deadlines.
“Take inspiration from others, but do not take their story as prescription,” Denise wisely advises. “Comparison is the thief of joy.” Everyone’s path to becoming a published author looks different, and that’s perfectly fine. The key is taking consistent action toward your goal.

The main takeaway? You have valuable wisdom to share with the world. Don’t let fear or lack of writing skills hold you back from leaving your legacy in book form. With the right support and an action plan, you can make your dream of becoming a published author a reality. Your story matters!
