Friday’s Fashion : Kicking it in Fall Booties From Target

With all the food that I and probably many of you consumed last week, I decided to forgo a Friday Foodie Feature and instead opted for a Friday Fashion OOTD.  I do, however, hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and were able to spend some quality time with your family and friends – unplug and unwind if for only 24 hours.

Malik drove home from Bowie on Wednesday afternoon and we had a great time, watching movies, shopping and of course he once again tried to break my bank but it wasn’t so bad this time.  This year he is a commuter staying at his great aunt’s house because he forgot to request housing last year so no dorm supplies are needed.  Tayair had to work each day except on Thanksgiving, so we were able to spend a wonderful day together which has become quite rare.

We don’t shop on Black Friday so we spent the day inside relaxing and watching movies and of course, eating leftovers late into the night – I am afraid to get on the scale!  If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, then you may remember seeing these black Booties which I purchased from Target on clearance for $11.38.  I asked hubby to drive me down to the Marina in Middletown for a photo shoot and because the weather was nice, he obliged, otherwise, I would have been by that water by myself – hubby doesn’t like cold weather!

Marina in Middletown

We hadn’t been down to the Marina for several months and now there is a new restaurant which we need to check out, hopefully, it’s better than the previous establishment.  The last time we were there I did a photo shoot for MetroStyle – remember this post?

Kohl's Booties

It was very quiet on the water, however, there were a few brave souls dining outdoors at Grain H20 – I guess they just needed to get out of the house because, despite the fact it was nice enough to be out without a coat, it wasn’t nice enough to eat outdoors!

I fell in love with these black, suede booties because they are a perfect accessory to wear with either a dress or jeans or this oversized animal print tunic which has been a closet staple for over five-plus years.

Hubby is normally gracious when I ask him to accompany me for a photo shoot, but oftentimes, he looks at me like I am crazy and today wasn’t an exception, therefore, I had to take a few selfies for good measure!

I even stopped to do a Livestream video, which as you will notice hubby wasn’t enthusiastic at all!  Do you have trouble getting your hubby or significant other to take your pictures?

Peep Toes Until It Snows

Peep Toes until it snows shoe review

Disclosure:  I was provided with a discount coupon for an honest review of these shoes – all opinions are 100% my own. #ad #Amazon #Tomoson

“If you don’t know me by now…you will never ever know me…woo hoo” – no seriously, most of you who have been following me know that I love my heels and hope to continue wearing them until I am well into my 60s!

I also refuse to cover my toes until it snows which is why I have to make sure my feet are right and tight, so I spend Saturday at the nail salon getting a pedicure.

Hubby and I had plans for a dinner date immediately following so I wanted to make sure I was looking my best, and this dress definitely fits the bill.

It was a beautiful Saturday even though we spent the morning outdoors cutting down trees so I was definitely ready to be pampered mid-afternoon before an early dinner.

These gorgeous beige suede pumps by J. Adams were ordered online from Amazon, fit perfectly and was a great accent to the dress.

Last week after church I went shopping and a gentleman who entered the store after me, paid me one of the best compliments of the day, he said, when I saw those legs, I was going to call you Tina Turner!!!  I do hope that at the age of 65, these legs are still just as tight.

If you are looking for a Peep-Toe Shoe for the upcoming holidays to show off your freshly done pedicure then head over to Amazon and check out these peep-toe pumps!

Do You Wear a Hat or Not When It’s Hot?

should you wear a hat in the summer sun

July in Delaware is always blazing hot so it’s important to cover your head especially if you are going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time.  Normally, I am not so I forgo the hat, however, a few weeks ago I really needed it.

cover your head from the sun

This is just a little cheapie sun hat that I picked up a few years ago from Burlington Coat Factory before a vacation to the Dominican Republic.  It had a chin strap which unless I wanted to look like a goofy cowboy, I chose not to keep it attached.

The summer is far from over, as a matter of fact, the official end of the summer isn’t until September, so make sure to stay safe in this heat by following a few of these summer sun safety tips from the American Cancer Society.

  • Cover up: When you are out in the sun, wear clothing and a wide-brimmed hat to protect as much skin as possible. Protect your eyes with sunglasses that block at least 99% of UV light.

  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher: Reapply at least every 2 hours, as well as after swimming or sweating.

  • Seek shade: Limit your direct exposure to the sun, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when UV rays are strongest.

  • Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps: Both can cause serious long-term skin damage and contribute to skin cancer.
  • Choose a sunscreen with “broad-spectrum” protection. Sunscreens with this label protect against both UVA and UVB rays. All sunscreen products protect against UVB rays, which are the main cause of sunburn. But UVA rays also contribute to skin cancer and premature aging. Only products that pass a test can be labeled “broad spectrum.” Products that aren’t broad spectrum must carry a warning that they only protect against sunburn, not skin cancer or skin aging.

  • Choose a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. The SPF number is the level of protection the sunscreen provides against UVB rays. Higher SPF numbers do mean more protection, but the higher you go, the smaller the difference becomes. SPF 15 sunscreens filter out about 93% of UVB rays, while SPF 30 sunscreens filter out about 97%; SPF 50 sunscreens filter about 98%, and SPF 100 filter about 99%. No sunscreen protects you completely. The FDA requires any sunscreen with an SPF below 15 to carry a warning that it only protects against sunburn, not skin cancer or skin aging.

  • “Water resistant” does not mean “waterproof.” No sunscreens are waterproof or “sweatproof,” and manufacturers are not allowed to claim that they are. If a product’s front label makes claims of being water resistant, it must specify whether it lasts for 40 minutes or 80 minutes while swimming or sweating. For best results, reapply sunscreen at least every 2 hours and even more often if you are swimming or sweating. Sunscreen usually rubs off when you towel yourself dry so you will need to put more on.

Wearing Walmart to Work – Casual Attire in the Workplace

Casual Dressing in the office

Hey, welcome to the weekend!  I decided to pop back in before the end of the month with another “Wearing Walmart to Work” outfit and to ask you a question about dressing casually in the office.

Remember this post when I told you that I had purchased these tops in red, white and black for $4.99 each, well they are now on clearance, so head over to your nearest Walmart and pick up a few.

Dressing for Less

You can wear them well into the fall season simply by putting on a cardigan sweater or blazer and when a menopause flash hits, you can take it off and be cool as a cucumber!

Okay, now on to the question.  First of all, you guys know that I very rarely wear pants to work but when I do it’s only on a Casual Friday, which was the case for this outfit. However, I now work in an office where there are several millennials who only wear jeans, sneakers, and flip-flops which made me think.

Do you think that it’s appropriate and are you more productive when wearing casual clothing as opposed to when you are wearing business attire?

I am old skool IBM, brought into the business wearing dresses, suits and wing tip shoes as well as other very uncomfortable attire such as panty hose (yuck).

casual or business attire

However, today, if you really think about it, what once had been considered business attire is no longer the case.  As a matter of fact, below is the link to an article about dressing more casually in the office and it how it may or may not affect an employee’s productivity.

Workers are dressing more casually. Does that affect productivity?

clothing and accessories from Walmart

Oh, by the way, this reversible tote bag was purchased last season also from Walmart and it’s a great size for carrying my casual Friday items, including my Selfie Stick!

This infinity scarf of which I also bought three of were on clearance for $2.00, and I am pretty sure that the prices will drop once the fall items hit the racks.

Wearing Walmart to Work

Wow, does it seem like summer is flying by too quickly?  It didn’t help that spring was soggy and that we had more cool days than hot in June and I haven’t even worn half of my summer casual clothes.

I don’t usually buy new clothing especially since I am still decluttering my closets, however, I just couldn’t resist these sleeveless tops from Walmart for only $4.99.  I actually purchased 3, one in black, white and this one in red.

fashion for less

I love casual Fridays and this was a perfect outfit to wear to the office.  The skirt was also previously purchased from Walmart and I paired it with black sandals from Sears and a Goldtone bag from Avon.

thrifted accessories from Goodwill

The long chain necklace, believe it or not, was thrifted and the red bracelet was purchased from Old Navy.  Thanks to menopause and my love of Michelob Ultra and wine, I haven’t been doing many outfits of the day!

However, I may start adding a least one dress for less post each month, most likely a fashion feature on Saturday so stay tuned for others.

Walmart Wear

I love this oversized butterfly ring but can’t remember where it was purchased.
