According to Merriam-Webster the term side hustler is defined as “work performed for income supplementary to one’s primary job.” In the 1950s, it was used to describe both scams and legitimate jobs. However, in the 2000s, it’s something that most people do to make ends meet!
Below are 6 Side Hustles That Can Help You Earn Additional Income Even with a Full Time Job.
1. Start Blogging
Blogging is by far one of the best side hustle jobs. It allows you to build a strong brand while owning your own asset. You can blog about products or your passions. Having a niche that you write about such as health and fitness, sports, business, beauty or travel allows you to build an audience who shares the same interests. You can monetize your blog in a few ways: affiliate links, sponsored posts, or adding a shop link where you sell dropshipping products.
How much money can you make blogging as a side hustle depends, for me in the in the beginning I made little to nothing. But other bloggers who grind and hustle for a few years have made enough money to quit their job and do it full time. Check out my friend and fellow blogger Product Review Mom.
If you create consistent quality content you will bring a lot of traffic to your site that will make it easier to monetize. If you wish to learn more, sign up for my “Building Your Blog Workshop” on August 30th at the YWCADE.
2. Start a Dropshipping Business
Dropshipping is one of the best side job ideas. It allows you to sell a product directly to the customer without having to buy any inventory. The great thing is you don’t have to invest any money to buy products, keeping your risk low. The manufacturer carries and ships it directly to the customer for you. Your main job is to market the product and provide positive customer service.
One of the great things about dropshipping is that you can start a business within any of your favorite passions. If you love decorating your home, you can sell home decor products. If you are a fashionista, you can start your own fashion store. If you a makeup maven, then sell beauty products and build an audience who follows along to your makeup tutorials. You are the owner of your own business and dropshipping is a great side hustle to start out with.
3. Freelance Writer
Freelance writing is a side hustle that allows you to make money by trading your time. Freelance writing is a side hustle that allows you to determine how much money you can make. You can have a contract set up with a client or two that’ll allow you to know exactly how much money you’ll be able to make each month.
As a side hustler many freelance writers can make an extra $500 – $3000 a month, depending on what their article rate is and how many articles they can produce in their spare time. If you’re just starting out, you might want to focus on building your portfolio and skills on Fiverr, Craigslist or Upwork as it’s easier to land your first few clients on those websites.
4. Become an Affiliate Marketer
Affiliate marketing is one of those side hustles that can either make you a lot of money or none at all. It’s not only about finding the right product to sell but also finding the right brand to partner with. If you chose to be an affiliate marketer for ecommerce stores, your commission will likely be a lot lower than if you were just to dropship them yourself. However, there are tech companies who will pay a hefty price tag to affiliates who bring them new customers.
5. Become an Instagram Influencer
Building a person brand on Instagram is by far the most popular side gig especially among millennials. However, on Instagram, anyone can start a side hustle by becoming an influencer. The photos don’t have to be of you, you can build an Instagram following around your recipes or scenic photography. You can monetize your Instagram account via sponsored posts, Instagram takeovers or selling a product on your website. Being an influencer can be a good side hustle, especially since the average influencer charges between $200-$400 a post.
Please note that you must be consistent in the type of content you post, how often you post, and when you post. You’ll gain new followers if people know what they can regularly expect from your page. As you won’t be able to monetize right away, understand that you’ll need to invest your time into growing your followers by posting several times a day, every day.
6. Become a Virtual Assistant
A virtual assistant is an assistant who works in a remote location. They can help with tasks such as administration, social media, bookkeeping and more. There’s been a growing demand for virtual assistants from business owners who need help on various projects. As a virtual assistant you can specialize in countless areas. There are countless other businesses around the world who rely on virtual assistants to grow and maintain their brands.
You can choose to set a total monthly earning or get paid by the hour. Some make minimum wage while others might make $35 an hour depending on their skills and experience. You can join popular Facebook groups for businesses or online retailers to offer your services.
A side hustle can not only help you make some extra money, it can also help you develop new skills, build your personal brand or portfolio and help you achieve more freedom. So, have fun with it! Don’t let your age or location stop you, take a risk by starting a business or pursue a new hobby you’ve always been passionate about, I am!
