3 Benefits of Business Blogging

Blogging is a marketing tactic that uses blog posts or articles to get your business more online visibility. A business blog is another marketing channel like social media, direct mail, and email marketing which all helps support business growth.

1 – Benefits of Business Blogging

The number one benefit of a business blog is that it helps drive traffic to your website.  Do you want more website visitors. Yeah, we all do!

Unless someone knows your website and types the url into their browser you might be found, but most likely it’s by the audience you already have. They are your existing clients or customers who know know who you are but it doesn’t get you more traffic on top of what you’re already getting.

You could pay for traffic by buying an email list but “Friends Don’t Let Friends Buy Followers” so don’t do it!

You could pay for traffic by buying or boosting ads but that can get expensive and as soon as you run out of money or deplete your budget, your traffic stops too.

So, how can you drive more traffic to your website?  BLOGGING!

Think about it…how many pages are on your website. Probably not many, right?  Think about it…how often you update those pages. Probably not often, right?

Well, building a business blog helps with both of those problems.  Every time you write a blog post it become another indexed page on your website, which means it’s one more opportunity for your website to show up in search engines and drive traffic to your website in an organic search.

Google and other search engines sees that your website is active and the BOTS start checking in more frequently to see what new content is written and shared.

2 – Benefits of Business Blogging

Blogging also helps you get discovered via social media. Every time you write a blog post, you’re creating content that people can share on social networks such as FacebookTwitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest which helps expose your business to a new audience that may not know you yet.

Creating blog content also helps keep your social media presence going so  instead of asking your social media manager to come up with brand new original content for social media, or creating content yourself, your blog can serve as that repository of content. You’re strengthening your social reach with blog content and driving new website visitors to your blog via your social media channels.

So, with the first benefit of blogging that helps drive new traffic to your website this new traffic provides an opportunity to convert that traffic into leads.  With every blog post you write it becomes another opportunity to generate new leads. Just make sure to write a lead-generating CTA (call-to-action) to every blog post.

Often, these calls-to-action lead to things like free eBooks, free fact sheets, free webinars, free trials, usually any content for which someone would be willing to exchange their information, their email address.

  • Visitor comes to website
  • Visitor sees CTA (call-to-action) for a free offer
  • Visitor clicks call-to-action and gets to a landing page, which contains a form for them to fill in with their information
  • Visitor fills out form, submits information, and receives the free offer

Please note that not every reader of your blog will turn into a lead, however, don’t let this deter you from putting a calls-to-action on every blog post.

3 – Benefits of Business Blogging

Blogging helps to establish authority.  The best business blogs answer common questions their leads and customers have. If you’re consistently creating content that’s helpful for your target customer, it’ll help establish you as an authority in their eyes. This is a particularly handy tool for Sales and Service professionals.

Can you imagine the impact of sending an educational blog post you wrote to clear things up for a confused customer? Or how many more deals a salesperson could close if their leads discovered blog content written by their salesperson?

If a prospective customers find answers to their common questions via blog posts written by people at your company, they’re much more likely to trust and view you as an expert even before they were interested in purchasing a product or service from you.

However, the best benefit of starting a business blog is that blog post are ranking in search engines which means for days, weeks, months, and years to come, you can continue to get traffic and leads from that blog post.

Your return on investment (ROI) is therefore, much higher than Facebook or Twitter posts.
