What’s under your bathroom sink?
I was raised in the 60s by a grandmother who believed in old skool home remedies:
A big tablespoon of Cod Liver or Castor Oil every Saturday morning;
A big bowl of Turnip or Collard Greens on Sundays;
A few pieces of Horehound Candy for a cough or cold;
And Apple Cider Vinegar for everything else!
Upset stomach…insect bites…inflammation
I have been drinking a shot of regular Apple Cider Vinegar with water almost every night for years, usually purchasing a bottle from Dollar Tree for a buck. However, recently I starting seeing Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar Raw Unfiltered on the store shelves, but never purchased it because it was a bit more costly.
Last week while shopping at Walmart with my son, I decided to take the plunge and purchase a bottle for which I am glad that I did. Like Mikey, “I tried it and I liked it!”
The Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar Raw Unfiltered is not as acidic as regular Apple Cider Vinegar which is good because now there’s no need to add a lot of water which dilutes to too much and it’s much easier to swallow with just a little bit of water.
My grandmother told me that Apple Cider Vinegar was good for digestion as well as inflammation, and I always knew when her arthritis was acting up because her room would smell like vinegar. She would rub it on her legs and thighs and swore that it helped ease the pain and I believed her.
If you didn’t know that there are health benefits of drinking Apple Cider Vinegar daily, ones that can improve every aspect of your health and your life, then you need to read on.

I’m going to try this! I remember my great friend whom I adopted as a grandma sai to drink vinegar and water daily. I had forgotten about this! The one remedy my Sis and I grew up with is Vicks rub when we had colds. I still use it today when I have a cold. When my husband was alive he hated the smell of it. Hugz Lisa and Bear
oh yes sis, we still use Vick’s Salve on our chest and noses, nothing better or more effective than old skool remedies. Enjoy the weekend my dear.
You too! Happy Friday sweetie
Good ole ACV has been around for years. I used to drink it diluted with water every morning and need to get back to it. My Mom swears by “bush tea” and now she is on the “sour sop leaves” (sour sop is a fruit bearing tree from the islands and it grows in SFla). She boils the leaves and add a drop of honey at night. Enjoy your weekend Sis.
Wow, that sounds pretty good, are the sour sop leaves sweet? Hubby starting drinking ACV but hasn’t been able to get used to the taste – it doesn’t bother me – I just jug-a-lug it and be done! Have a wonderful weekend my dear.
When you said Cod Liver Oil I had flashbacks. My mom made me drink that stuff EVERY day. She always claimed it was keeping my immune system strong. I rarely got sick, but I don’t drink that stuff anymore. Another old thing I remember is Castor Oil. Whenever you get a cough you taking it to clear it up quick – the side effects not so nice though.
I have been seeing this vinegar everywhere. People are claiming to be shedding weight like never before by drinking it before every meal. My mom’s a nurse and she advised against it because she said too much would thin your blood and I’m already anemic so I don’t need that. However, I do use apple cider vinegar in my shampoo and washout conditioner now that I’m natural so I can make sure that my scalp is being cleansed thoroughly.
Did you have to take a “big ole swallow” from an oversized spoon!!!!! Yuck, I can taste Castor Oil in my mouth now….but yes, it kept us cleaned out – lol Too much of anything is not good, which is why I only use a little twice per day but it hasn’t caused me to lose weight – wish it did! Yes, it’s also good for hair cleansing. I do hope you are having a good Friday and will have a good weekend.
I was just looking a Apple Cidar vinegar in the store the other day. I know a lot of naturalistas use it on their scalp. I’m not sure about drinking it yet, but I might try it. #productreviewparty
Yes, it is great for scalp cleansing and insect bites, which I used it for today while working outdoors.
My grandmother is a believer in cod liver oil. When I was a kid she would give it to my brothers and I when we spent the night. She also eats greens almost daily. She grew up on a farm and continued having a huge garden(a few acres) as an adult. Her and my grandfather grew lots of greens, purple hull peas, corn, sweet potatoes, potatoes, peppers, green beans, watermelons, strawberries, and so much more. Since my grandfather died she doesn’t grow as much, but she still finds prefers to pick her own greens from other people green patches during the fall. Then she cooks and freezes and insane amount of greens that she keeps in her deep freezer. She even shares them with my brothers and I.
My husband drinks Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar almost daily. I go through phases where I’ll drink it, but it’s mostly when I feel like I need it. Which is why I’ve been drinking it this week. ☺
I love your grandmother as she is a strong and wise woman who has an equally wise and strong granddaughter. I miss mine as she passed away in 2009 at the age of 98, but am glad she left me with many memories.
Hubby started drinking the Vinegar and water but he hates the taste ?
Glad your using this one! The regular one on the shelf at the store does not have the mother. The one you have now does….. for it to be the best it needs the mother in it! I love old school remedies and trying them!
Believe it or not I just started using this kind. I had been using regular Apple Cider Vinegar with water and always thought it wouldn’t be good for the enamel on my teeth.
I absolutely love ACV. I use it in everything!! I even make a syrup out of it that I coat popcorn with. Cheers! ?
Oh wow, that sounds amazing, please share the recipe.
