If you’re following me on Instagram, then you saw that last week I not only had an opportunity to attend BloggerWeek UnConference at Trinity Washington University in Washington DC, but that I also had the honor of being a Break–Out Session Pesenter.
My topic “Build Your Brand with a Podcast” was very well received by a room full of attendees and I also had an opportunity to share additional bits of information with those who waited afterwards as well as to those who sent emails later.
I was just one of many other presenters who had an opportunity to speak and pleasure of participating in the 2019 Meet and Greet at BloggerWeek in Washington, DC.
The morning started with a Welcome from Founder Jessica Aiwuyor who only minutes earlier had to help me dislodge my purse from a ladies room stall…another story for another post! We were all excited and anxious to hear more about the conference as well as what was in store for us during the day.
She was followed by Candice Appiakorang who then introduced Lynn Cooper, aka the “Digital Instigator our Keynote speaker. Lynn is an award-winning entrepreneur who delivered words of encouragement and inspiration that really set the tone for the day. I remembered Lynn from a feature of she and her family in Essence Magazine a few years ago and immediately felt a sisterly blogger bond.
After the Keynote, we all headed upstairs where there were two break-out sessions of which to choose. I headed to Room B to listen to Muffy Mendoza, Executive Director, Brown Mamas, LLC whose topic was “A Bigger Stage: How To Go From Live Videos to Live Stages Through Storytelling.” The next presentation was held in the Main Hall and it featured Pauleanna Reid. Her topic was, “Make Them Want You: How to Pitch Your Brand to the Media” and she provided useful information on how to connect as well as a list of websites with contact information for Media Executives.
During the Networking lunch which was sponsored by Bronner Bros, and Upscale Magazine we all had an opportunity to listen to Mr. Bernard Bronner, CEO of Bronner Bros and Upscale Magazine whose words of business wisdom was very well received. Start small and to always remember to give back was what impressed me the most about his comments. Before the next session began, most of us networked; exchanged business cards and Instagram handles; took selfies and pictures in front of the “Step and Repeat” as well as checked out the various vendor tables.
My presentation, “Build Your Brand with a Podcast” was scheduled for 2:00 PM which was a perfect after lunch time slot. I followed Tiffany Haywood, whose topic 3-D Branding: Be You, Be Consistent, Be Creative was engaging and light hearted but filled with a lot of useful information.
I sponsored 2 Giveaways; one was for a Xiaikoa Plug & Play Podcasting Condenser Mic and the other for a “Delaware Blogger Podcast” personalized Mug. The drawing was held later in the Main Hall and the winners were chosen by Candice with the help of my friend and fellow Marketer, Cathy E. Smith, CEO, C2 Internet Marketing Strategies.
Not only did Cathy assist me with the drawing but she was also my host for the weekend. She had invited me to stay with her and her husband in Maryland and we enjoyed some great food while I was in town.
As part of the BloggerWeek UnConference package we also had an opportunity to visit the African American History Museum on Sunday which was life altering and is definitely a topic for another post coming soon.
I first met Tiffany Haywood – aka – Mrs. Tee on Friday night at the BloggerWeek Unconference Mixer but had been following her online since about 2014 so it was nice to see her live and in person.
Before the end of the Conference which featured “In Conversation with Roland Martin” facilitated by Jessica, we listened to Jeff Jenkins present, “How To Grow a Community to 10k in Less Than a Year; Instagram Best Practices.” Jeff dropped some good nuggets about the suggested ways in which to use hashtags and how @ mentioning others had really expanded his following audience.
Here was my opportunity to show Mr. Martin the video from Bowie State’s Commencement of which he was the Keynote and where my son “stomped the stage!”.
BloggerWeek Unconference was a perfect event in which to Celebrate Multicultural Digital Media and I am looking forward to the next one in 2020 however, I am already booked to present “From Campus to Corporate with LinkedIn” tomorrow at Delaware State University for their DEEP Day so there is no rest for the weary!
Congratulations to winners of the DelBlogger Giveaways!

Great report on the conference. I was intrigued by your giveaway. I looked up the microphone you gave away. It seems to be a great item. Kudos to you and all you do.
Thank you Tony, it is a great beginner mic and works well when recording in the closet on a laptop or smartphone!
Congratulations! What a terrific event. I keep saying a I am going to get out there more but haven’t made it yet.
Yes, it’s always exciting to meet fellow bloggers live and in person, especially when you have been following them for years. I hope we can get together one day soon as well.
