Turkey Time!

Completed Turkey Dinner

It’s Turkey Time!!!!  Yes, can you believe that Thanksgiving is only 23 days away?  I don’t know about you, but in our home, we no longer prepare large family dinners, especially since it’s only hubby and my two mini-men.

I do, however, miss the big family gatherings that we once had, but now prefer a much calmer day without having to spend a lot of time in the kitchen nor spend a lot of money preparing a large meal which makes the Jennie-O Oven Ready, No Thawing Boneless Turkey Breast a perfect option for us.

A 2-3 pound Jennie-O Oven Ready Turkey Breasts is more than enough for a full meal, however, I must admit it’s not enough for leftovers so if you like eating Turkey Sandwiches or making Turkey soup, then you should get a  Jennie-O Turkey Whole Turkey which I made last year.

It is easy to prepare and you don’t have to worry about having enough room in the freezer, or oven which will give you plenty of room to make baked potatoes or any other side dish or dessert that you wish to bake.

Easy Thanksgiving meal ingredients

I always cook collards or kale as our vegetable of choice and if you watch this video you’ll see how I like to make my kale.

Follow the easy step by step instructions on the back of the package and your Thanksgiving meal or Sunday dinner will be ready in under 2 hours.  The package of frozen gravy should be placed in the refrigerator while the turkey cooks and then add some of the drippings to make a delicious covering for your turkey or potatoes.

Oh, and you can even Slow Cook the Jennie-O Oven Ready Turkey Breast which I may try the next time.

Turkey Burger Toppings

Yay, it’s summer which means pool parties, outdoor fun and of course outdoor grilling and one of my all time favorite grilled foods are Turkey Burgers!

However, it doesn’t matter where my burger is cooked, whether it’s outdoors on the grill on the inside on a George Forman grill, what tops my burger is what is really important to me!

I also prefer using Sandwich Rounds versus hamburger buns because I like to cut back on the carbs especially in the warmer weather and it’s really the tasty turkey burger and toppings that matter the most to me!

toppings for grilled burgers

Hubby likes his Turkey Burger topped with lettuce, tomato, raw onions, sautéed mushrooms and sweet peppers, white American cheese and a little yellow mustard.

Malik on the other hand just spreads his bread with a little sweet and spicy sauce and that’s it, I find it boring and it must be a college thing because I definitely don’t understand it!

Tayair is not as boring, however, he only tops his burger with cheddar cheese, pickles, ketchup, and relish with a few chips on the side.

However, for me, basically, I like putting a salad on my burger because it has to have lettuce, tomato, raw onions, cucumbers, sharp cheddar cheese, spicy mustard and pickles on the side.

The weather this month hasn’t been as warm as it usually is so I haven’t fired up the grill yet…as a matter of fact, I haven’t even uncovered the pool which I normally do on Mother’s Day weekend.
Well, it may still be a bit too chilly to start cooking outdoors, but it’s not too chilly to start cooking lighter which is why thisTurkey Pasta Salad was perfect for a mid-week meal.

Slow Cooked Chili – Back to the Routine with Jennie-O

Disclosure:  As a member of the Jennie-O Switch Circle, I am provided products to review throughout the year.  All opinions are 100% my own.

.

The holidays were great but I must admit that I ate way too much, but hey, that is part of the fun of the holidays right?

Slow Cooked Turkey Chili

Now it’s time to get back into the routine of not only eating healthier but scheduling my Sundays to include the live Podcasts, Social Media Sunday with the Delaware Blogger, on AAUTeenTalkRadio every Sunday at 6 PM EST.

During the colder winter months, I love cooking on Sundays because it reminds me of the movie “Soul Food”.  I usually start dinner after church to ensure hubby and my son can start eating before the end of the Podcast in case it runs longer than an hour.

A few weeks ago we had our first major snow storm so it seemed fitting to make a big pot of Chili, but instead of cooking it on top of the stove, I decided to slow cook it in the Crock Pot.

As a member of the #SwitchCircle with Jennie-O, I received my first product delivery of the year, which was perfect timing for getting back to the resolution of healthy eating and returning to a routine.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb of Jennie-O of Lean Ground Turkey
  • 1 15.5 oz can of Black Beans (undrained)
  • 1 15.5 oz can of White Kidney Beans (undrained)
  • ½ cup onions – diced
  • 1 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes (undrained)
  • 2-3 teaspoons of Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of Sugar
  • Chili Powder or Cayenne Pepper to taste (optional)

Instructions:

  • In a large skillet, cook ground turkey until no longer pink
  • Dice onion then add to the turkey and cook for an additional five minutes
  • In a 3-6-quart slow cooker, combine all ingredient, mix well
  • Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours.
  • Stir well before serving over rice or with cornbread

Slow Cooked Turkey Tenderloins

Disclosure: As a member of the Jennie-O Switch Circle, I receive products throughout the year to review.  All opinions are 100% my own.

This recipe was first posted at DeDivahDeals and I wanted to feature it over here at my new home at DelBlogger.

As a member of the Switch Circle at Jennie-O, I periodically receive samples of turkey products to review and share with my readers.  This is a recipe that I used when I received a package of Turkey Tenderloins last fall.

By using just a few ingredients I was able to make this mid-week meal that both my hubby and son enjoyed.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package Jennie-O Boneless Turkey Breast Tenderloin
  • 1 package of frozen peppers and onions
  • 1 small can of Pineapple Tidbits
  • 1 bottle Hawaiian Style Barbeque Sauce
  • Cooking Spray

Instructions:

  • Spray inside of Crock Pot with Cooking Spray
  • Add 1/2 bag of frozen peppers and onions
  • Add Turkey Tenderloins
  • Add Pineapple Tidbits
  • Add remaining frozen peppers and onions
  • Pour entire bottle of Barbecue Sauce

Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 6 hours.  Serve over pasta or rice and enjoy.  However, because we had enough for leftovers, my son decided just to shred it and put on a whole wheat bun with coleslaw.

This is just one of the tasty recipes that I enjoy making using the Crock Pot.
