Wow, I can’t believe that tomorrow is Thanksgiving!!! This has to be the best holiday ever, however, it’s also a bit sad as I no longer have my sister nor my grandmother and it’s during this time of the year that I miss them the most.
My grandmother created the most fun appetizers using cheese and crackers, pickles and olives and my sister made the best Banana Pudding that I had ever eaten. However, since it’s just hubby, the mini men and myself I don’t usually get overly creative when it comes to making Thanksgiving dinner. That has all changed because this year it’s going to be a Thanksgiving Tradition with a Twist @ Lidl which will be full of fun and lots of savings.
Tayair and I shop at Lidl at least once per week, so last week when we shopped it was for more than just the basics, we also picked up a few special items in memory of both my grandmother and sister.
We love snacking on cheese and crackers so I picked up a few different varieties:
The cheeses will be served atop the Entertainment Crackers with a side of Kalamata Olives and a few pickles
I will not try to recreate my sister’s Banana Pudding so instead we purchased the Preferred Selection Cheesecake Sampler which will be just enough for us four.
However, if you are expecting a larger crowd and would prefer something a bit more sweet, make sure to check out the other varieties of decadent treats and desserts!
To see what other items we purchased check out this video then stay tuned for the recipe for Slow Cooked Chicken Thighs in Tikka Masala Curry Sauce which will be coming soon to my blog as a Friday Foodie Feature.
If you’ve never shopped at a Lidl, let me tell you that when you first walk in, it’s like walking into your grandma’s kitchen because the first sight you see are the freshly baked goodies which are currently on sale, BOGO 50% off. I was good and didn’t purchase a cookie or donuts but couldn’t resist picking up a Sweet Potato pie!
There are many varieties of baked goods made with European products including German sour dough bread and French Croissants, all freshly baked throughout the day.
The produce is always fresh and very colorful and is “proudly sourced from the USA”. I picked up a few sweet potatoes, onions and lemons which are definitely priced right when compared to other local grocery stores.
Organic and gluten free options are also widely available including organic fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy and package food items.
You’ll also love the wide aisles because there’s room enough for two carts and people to pass each other comfortably which allows you to linger longer to check all the shelves for more great bargains, such as their wide variety of spices, sauces and frozen foods.
Oh, and there are little “Lidl Surprises” throughout the store that change each week, many of these non-food products include fitness gear, small kitchen appliances, toys and outdoor furniture.
During this time of the year, it’s great to shop at Lidl as it’s a one stop for food, toys for kids and pets, decorations as well as PJ’s for moms and pops and gifts for yourself including this Aromatherapy Set for only $9.99.
Jennie-O Turkeys are also on sale at .99 cents a pound so make sure to pick up one for Christmas.
Saving money is more important now that I am full time in my business, A.Blake Enterprises and I can always count on saving more when shopping at Lidl which is pronounced (leedle) like needle. Free Wi-Fi is available so make sure to download the Lidl app for even more savings.
Tayair enjoys listening to the piped-in-music while shopping and he thinks a Lidl Gift Card makes a perfect stocking stuffer – and I agree.
Being Green is easy with Lidl’s Resuable bags because they are sized perfectly and sturdy enough to carry all of my purchases and as you can see, fits perfectly into my “Bloggy Buggy”.
