Hey there, Boomers and Beyond family!
Today, I want to talk to you from both my heart and personal experience. As your host of the Boomers and Beyond Podcast and the voice behind DelBlogger, my mission has always been about helping the 55+ community embrace life’s next chapters—healthily, happily, and proactively.
In the most recent episode of the Boomers and Beyond Podcast, we dove deep into something very close to me: the power of proactive health. Yes, this topic just got a lot more personal for me, and I want to share my journey so it can help empower you, too.
Recently, I received a diagnosis of DCIS—a non-invasive, stage zero breast cancer. I’ll be honest, when I heard the words “breast cancer,” I was in shock. But here’s what made all the difference: early detection. Thanks to my regular checkups and annual mammograms, we caught it before it could become more serious. My surgery was on September 8th, and I was filled with hope, faith, and determination to keep moving forward.
Why am I sharing this? Because I want YOU to be encouraged to stay on top of your health—not just for yourself, but for everyone who loves and depends on you. Far too often, we put off those appointments… We say we’re too busy, it’s too inconvenient, or, “I’ll get to it next year.” I get it! But these checkups aren’t just boxes to tick—they’re lifesavers.

Here’s what I want every Boomer (and everyone you love) to remember:
- Mammograms save lives. Even if you feel fine, if you’re over 55, keep those mammogram appointments. I had NO lumps and NO warning signs—my diagnosis only happened because of a routine screening.
- Pap smears are still important. Even post-menopause, don’t let this slip off your radar. Talk with your physician about what’s right for you.
- Physicals, blood work, and colonoscopies matter. They seem like a never-ending list, but every single one is a critical layer of protection.
- Listen to your body. If something feels off—a new pain, a weird mole, anything—talk to your doctor. Don’t let it slide.
- Stay active, eat well, and manage stress. Take walks, enjoy healthy foods, find ways to relax and unwind. Your health is your greatest wealth!
Let’s keep this conversation going! Health is not just a personal journey; it’s a community one. Share this post and the podcast episode with your loved ones, friends, and fellow boomers. Let’s look out for each other, remind each other of upcoming appointments, and be the supportive community I know we can be!
