Hello, friends!
Welcome back to the DelBlogger, where we empower our amazing 55+ community to live their best lives. Today, I want to dive into a topic that’s absolutely vital for our well-being but often gets overshadowed – REST. Yes, you heard right! Not just any rest, but seven different types of rest we need to truly feel rejuvenated and ready to seize the day.
In Episode 29 of the Boomers and Beyond Podcast, we embarked on a journey to understand these seven types of rest. If you missed it, no worries – take a listen as I break it down so that we can all prioritize rest and wellness in our golden years.
The Seven Types of Rest We All Need:
- Physical Rest: This is the most obvious form. It’s about getting quality sleep and maybe even squeezing in a power nap or two. But it also includes gentle activities like yoga, stretching, and massages to help our bodies heal and relax.
- Mental Rest: Ever feel like your mind is racing, even when you’re in bed? Mental rest is all about quieting that storm. Try dedicating time to focus on a single task, free from distractions. Deep work can work wonders here.
- Emotional Rest: Life has its ups and downs, and sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in others’ drama or our own worries. Practicing self-compassion, setting boundaries, and maybe even talking to a therapist can be incredibly helpful.
- Spiritual Rest: We all need to feel connected to something bigger than ourselves. Whether it’s through gratitude, volunteer work, connecting with nature, or attending a religious service, find what gives you a sense of purpose.
- Social Rest: Not all social interactions are created equal. Spending time with people who uplift you and avoiding those who drain your energy is key. Join clubs or groups that align with your interests for more fulfilling social connections.
- Sensory Rest: Our senses are constantly bombarded by screens, lights, and noises. Taking breaks from technology, dimming the lights, and simply closing your eyes to breathe can help reset the senses.
- Creative Rest: Sometimes we just need to admire and engage with the beauty around us. This can be through art, music, nature, or anything that sparks your imagination and creativity.
So, there you have it – a holistic approach to rest that goes beyond just getting enough sleep. Remember, taking care of your mind, body, and soul is the best gift you can give yourself.
