Hello DelBlogger family!
Whether you tuned in to the latest episode of Boomers and Beyond or you’re just stopping by for your weekly dose of inspiration, I’m thrilled you’re here. Today, let’s talk about something truly heartwarming and absolutely essential—rekindling old friendships and cherishing lifelong bonds, even as our lives grow busier and stretch across miles and years.
Remember When…?
Think back for just a moment. Remember those study sessions powered by ramen noodles (or maybe sardines!), running laps until your legs gave out, or piling into that first car for an adventure with classmates? These memories stay with us, even as time and distance sometimes carry us away from the friends who helped create them.
But here’s the beautiful truth: those old connections are stronger than you might imagine—and it only takes a spark to rekindle that warmth and support we all need, especially as we journey through retirement, side gigs, or even our ongoing 9-to-5 routines.
Why Reconnect Now?
As we grow older, life throws plenty of curveballs our way: moves, marriages, new careers, growing families, or—let’s be real—just the everyday hustle. It’s easy for old friendships to slip beneath the surface. But maintaining and rekindling these bonds can bring us joy, shared history, and a real sense of belonging, particularly in a stage of life when support and connection matter the most.
Let’s not wait until we’re saying, “I wish I’d reached out.” There’s no time like the present to reconnect!
Simple Steps to Reignite Old Friendships
Here are a few practical ideas—direct from my latest podcast episode!—to help you take action:
- Start with a Simple Hello: Sometimes the hardest part is just reaching out. It can be a text, a call, a private message—anything to say, “I’ve been thinking about you. How have you been?”
- Use Social Media (Wisely!): Find classmates on Facebook, LinkedIn, or through alumni groups. Just be genuine—remind them of a shared memory or congratulate them on a recent life event.
- Attend or Organize Reunions: Whether or not you loved high school or college, events like reunions or homecomings are designed for exactly this—reconnection.
- Share Memories: Bring old photos, swap stories about favorite teachers, or reminisce about those unforgettable moments you shared.
- Accept Change: People grow and change. Rekindling a friendship is about cherishing the connection at its foundation, no matter how you’ve both evolved.
- Get Together (In Person or Online): Coffee meetups, potluck dinners, Zoom calls, or even quick check-ins can keep those friendships blooming.

Your Next Step—Take Action!
Today, I’m challenging you—yes, you!—to think of one or two friends from your high school or college days whom you’ve lost touch with. Reach out, send a warm message, or give them a quick call. You might be surprised at the joy and connection waiting for you on the other end.
And finally, if this resonates with you, don’t keep it to yourself! Share this post and the Boomers and Beyond Podcast with your friends—old and new. The more, the merrier!

What a timely post! I’m going to attend a dinner this evening of people from my high school graduating class! My old best friend from high school called me yesterday to remind me and invited me to attend with her! It will be fun to re-connect with some old friends from the 1970s!
Oh I love this!!!! It is so important to stay connected with our friends from school days! I know that you are going to have a blast – keep me posted!
It was a fun night! They have scheduled another for next month, so I plan to make that one, too. Got to reconnect with my best friend from HS!
Woohoo – so glad to read this comment. I hope you all have great times reconnecting!!!
Visiting from @WednesdayLink-upParty! Reconnecting is good for the soul, I started this journey a few years back, and I can highly recommend it!
Yes, thank you as staying connected is definitely an added bonus to our mental and physical well being.
